Is this masonite siding?
This siding seemed very easy to damage. It was really soft and it appears that the original surface has worn leaving just the paint to protect it..

Is this masonite siding?
If the question was "Is this compressed fiberboard siding?" then the answer would be yes it is.

Re: Is this masonite siding?
In my reports I refer to it as "hardboard siding" as Masonite is a brand name.

Re: Is this masonite siding?
Good point and thank you. Hardboard or compressed fiber may be a better description.
Other than maintaining the paint here, are there any other concerns with this type of siding? If the original surface wears as in the pictures, will paint be sufficient to prevent further issues?

Re: Is this masonite siding?
Back in the 70's the hardboard siding wasn't so hardboard. There was a time in the construction industry that this type of siding was used quite a bit and it wasn't worth nailing up, it was so soft that you could very easily break it without much effort, but the builders loved it.
I bet this is that type of hard(soft)board.

Re: Is this masonite siding?
That sounds like what this is. It certainly is not hard, I could indent it with my finger. It doesn't seem like a great siding product..

Re: Is this masonite siding?
Yes, if only I could rip the siding off and look.
I think I'll stick with what I can see and leave it at that. These are the frustrations with being a home inspector.. No destructive investigation allowed...

Sorry, I didn't mean that in a negative way I know you were not suggesting that.
