Need pic: Cripple wall bolted to foundation
I need a picture of a cripple wall bolted to a foundation-- if any of you have a higher resolution photo available, I'll owe you one. I'll be going through my archived photos, but finding a pic may take hours.

They are also unbraced. Very weak.

This link has a pic with the basic idea of bracing a cripple wall.

Earthquake zone or not, it is still a weak spot in my unexpert opinion.
Never done it before myself, but did notice in your pic that it was missing.

Re: Need pic: Cripple wall bolted to foundation
Gabe,
That picture of the improved cripple wall bracing appears to show structural panel sheathing on one side, not both sides of the cripple studs, but I may be wrong.

Hey Brandon, you're making it too difficult. If you'd click onto Scott's website link that is shown at the bottom of each one of his posts, it will take you to his website. His website has an "Email Me" link right there on the home page. Click on that and send him whatever you want.

My direct email is scott@traceinspections.com The one on my site will work as well but due to the massive amounts of spam it also allows, it might be a day before I see it.

Re: Need pic: Cripple wall bolted to foundation
The majority of the work is putting up plywood and brackets to connect the cripple wall to the flooring system with some holes for venting. Not a great deal of work here, but a substantial difference in strength.
My question is this? Why even build a cripple wall. Why not bring the foundation up directly to the flooring system. How much can the builder actually save?
