What is the brass(?) device on the vertical pipe?
It says something about how it activates at a certain PSI and should be installed on a cold water line, which it is. At the top, in the wall, it connects to the main pex cold. At the bottom it goes into the wall. There is a powder room on the other side of the wall.
This is new construction on slab.

Trap primer, used often for new construction with floor drains for condensate and TPR drains.

So they put a trap primer on a sink trap?

There's a floor drain in that utility closet. The pipe seems to be going in the wrong direction, otherwise I might have thought of this on my own.

Seems like it would make more sense to run the discharge from the primer right into the top of the floor drain?

Here's the floor drain with the AC condensate pipe, the washer pan drain pipe and, obviously, the water heater pan.
