    Question Bucket Trap?

Found this yesterday on a utility sink in garage. The 5 gallon bucket is connected to sink and drain entering wall. The homeowner most likely installed this. It appears that it may be designed to trap solids or debris from entering main drain lines. Has anyone ever seen this.

    Homemade grease trap.

Did they have a washing machine drain into this sink?

I've seen similar in homes where they do pottery. Was there a kiln nearby? Keeps all that clay from going down the drain.

Had to research this a while back, and found: Pottery and plumbing, how his would fare at a code inspection is a separate issue.
