Efflorescence or?
This is on my spa in San Diego where we do not have a lot of rain.
What is the white stuff? Even when it has been dry for months this appeared. It is not loose, mold like or chalky.
I am new to HI.
Thank you for your help.

Re: Efflorescence or?
It is calcium deposits or what is known as scale. Typically, it is caused from your pool water not being properly balanced. There is products you can buy that will remove it.

Re: Efflorescence or?
Thanks. The part that throws me is that the scale is all located in the middle of the concrete block walls. We just had a lot of rain so it looks like it has come from the top but that is not the case.
For my own continuuing education, how do I tell the difference between the 2 symptoms?

Re: Efflorescence or?
brick info search efflorescence
i'd bucket leak test to assure water was not seeping out
my experience
water quality deposits or staining are seen on pool interior
pool surfaces efflorescence is usually associated with components, tile or plaster that have partially lost their waterproof bond to the gunite shell
underlying minerals leech out and deposit on the surrounding surfaces

Re: Efflorescence or?
It represents a leak. A leeching type of slow seeping leak. I see it often and it has been verified by leak detection. The mineral deposits are from th escrow leak.

Re: Efflorescence or?
EffL is from salts leaching through ANY concrete type products from moisture! Most of the time it is powdery type, in this case it could be from past repairs with some lime in the repair product look at the edges you can see the over smear. Most likely some open joints or small cracks!

Re: Efflorescence or?
Then the neighbors report the poor guy for indecent exposure and he is marked as a pervert for life..............His wife leaves him, he's fired from his job, his kids change their last name, his church ostracizes him, and after 60 hours of community service, he is found by his sister living under a bridge peeing on any white stuff he can find, while muttering about advice from home inspectors. Everyone knows that he should pee in a jar and then pour it on the white stuff.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
