Chimney cricket/saddle
I inspected a house built in 1996 without a cricket on the high side of the chimney. Should a cricket have been installed on this roof in 1996?
Thanks

Re: Chimney cricket/saddle
Depends on how wide the chimney is. (where the water would run down and hit it)

Michael, it depends upon the width of the chimney. If it is 30" wide or more, then it should have a cricket.

Re: Chimney cricket/saddle
R1001.17 Chimney Crickets. Chimneys shall be provided with crickets when the dimension parallel to the ridge line is greater than 30 inches. and does not intersect the ridgeline........
Now if your asking what year they were required I do not know but I would think it was in 1996.
