dont dig the foundation to deep
Found that same root cellar dug out as to cause the foundation to fall / fail point out other defect too

Your photos are so small it is hard to make out what is in them.

what you are looking at is a dirt wall that is falling down with the beam foundation on top,
a beam foundation the is dug under
a missing post because of to much diggin

That looks like half the basement/crawl spaces in the Portland area. It's super common for people to just excavate a bunch of dirt and leave posts sitting atop vertical soil cuts and entire sections of the foundation hanging in space.
It often accompanies bug damage and rot from the low clearance and usual lack of ventilation.
I tend to go pretty general on the reporing of it. If you start talking about it post by post you'll undoubtedly leave something out and be in trouble.
