Automatic gate death
I just read about an 8 year old dying from injuries from an automatic gate.8-year-old boy dies after getting head stuck in neighborhood gate | WQAD.com
I try to warn clients that automatic gates should not be used unless it is in sight.
Seems this one was triggered by a road sensor. Obviously the boy should not have been crawling through the gate but it does bring home that these gates don't have the automatic safeties that we are accustomed to seeing on garage door operators.14384_930971176963714_5898472392506467548_n.jpg

Re: Automatic gate death
As I read this and other information, these are voluntary guidelines with no enforcement power on the manufacturers, correct?

Jim,
My apologies, I should have posted this instead as it is more clearly spelled out:

Re: Automatic gate death
Someone is going to be writing a very large check for this kid's death. Starting with the gate manufacturer, the outfit that installed it, and the subdivision management that ordered its installation.
Most 8-year-olds don't pay attention to warning signs. I know I didn't at that age.
