Default What was this device doing in the crawlspace?

What was this device doing in the crawlspace of a townhouse? Does it look like it is installed correctly?

Water meter with remote sensor (the wire lead)
I would think support for the meter itself would be required but I've never seen that before. We put meters here in a box underground.

It's fine, except they didn't install shut offs at either end to allow the water company to change or service the unit.

Never seen a water meter installed like that or in that type of location. Seems very funky. You'd probably have to contact the water department for info on their requirements for placement.

The management company could be doing their own metering and charging for the water used. Just a guess. Is the development on a community water system?

Yes, most likely the supply to whole complex is metered out at the road. I thought it was a funky installation as well.

No, I did not. It is PEX, with metal connectors, OK in my book.

Possibly a sub-meter to meter water usage for hose bibs which would be charged for water only. Many jurisdictions allow use of sub-meters so owners don't pay for sewer charges for outdoor water use. Would need to determine where the line goes downstream of meter.

Jon, I've added "submeter" to my vocabulary anyway. Submarines use water, too, don't they?

No harm done Charlie, I know you meant well.
It's a 2004 house. PEX has become the pipe of choice where I live. All you need is a package of rings and the tool can be rented for a few bucks.

It looks like gas line connecting with a meter from main line to home line. But, I have not seen meter fixed there because most of the meters are fixing at out side of the line not under the home line.
