    Default What is this?

1950's house. What is this, it appears to be a cleanout because the bottom unscrews. The other question is, on the top there is a hole drilled in it for a condensate line. Other than the line just being stuffed in there, and an improper connection is there anything else wrong. Its not a cross connection is it???

It's a drum trap. It's common on old houses. Is that lead pipe on the drain lines? Believe it or not, I've never seen a lead pipe, since there aren't any in my area.

The drum trap should be removed, as it makes it very hard to snake a clogged drain line. The condensate drain should have an air gap, unless there is one farther upstream from its termination at the drum trap.

It sure looked like lead, but I tapped on it with a screwdriver and it was hard? like steel. Weird.

    Probably brass, lead encased.
