Vertical Vinyl Siding
The siding on this home was installed vertically. I was not there doing a home inspection, and did not get a chance to check to see what was behind the vinyl. The home was built in 1991, so it may or may not be original. Long enough pieces appeared to have been used that no horizontal seams existed (i.e. span from foundation to eave). The exception would be at the tall gable ends where J channel was used at a single horizontal seam (at the base of the triangular shape gable wall) between the upper and lower pieces. Has anyone seen vinyl installed in this manner? Opinions? Concerns?

Re: Vertical Vinyl Siding
From those pictures I see no concerns. Vinyl siding is not intended to be a water tight barrier - what's behind the vinyl is where you need to have the proper details for water management.
