    Default exterior wood stairs

6 wood steps go to a side door of the house. the wood ledger board is nailed to the house siding (hardie). The ledger board should be lagged or through bolted to the house, correct?

Also, can the stairs contact the hardie siding? or is there a 2" clearance requirement.

Yes it needs to be lagged or through bolted.

The siding is not intended to be a buffer it will crack and the ledger will become loose at some point. The ledger needs a flat direct contact with the wall framing. with just paper and flashing behind. the hardie board should be cut out of the way...
