    Default AFCI's in condos

Are AFCI's required in condo bedrooms? (2003 ICC codes) Since condos do not fall under the IRC I didn't have a quick answer.

They are under the NEC and the NEC requires them in ALL bedrooms in dwelling units ... and, while the common condo structure is not 'a dwelling unit structure' each condo itself is 'a dwelling unit'.

The answer is Yes, AFCIs are required in condos just like in regular houses.

Follow up question: what if the unit is an efficiency? There is no "bedroom" per say. Does the entire unit have to be AFCI protected?

    Very interesting question.

I would say 'all except the kitchen and bathroom ones'.
