Three story, relatively flat, and there was a hatch, thanks. I may be crazy but I'm not stupid. Or is the other way around?

    Fritz,

That was my first thought too.

Then I said to myself 'But those are not cupolas, they might be finials.', so I searched "finials" and found that they "might be" finials, but they more likely were "roof caps" or "turret caps" based on what I found.

Kind of a toss-up, but most of the "finials" had some type of "finial" at the top and less of a bottom (the ones in the photo had nothing at the top and were all bottom), whereas "roof caps" and "turrent caps" fit much better.

Actually, my very first answer to John's statement question "come up with a name for these things" was 'I'd call them rusty', then I thought about it again and realized I was not sure their name was Rusty, could have been 'Bob' or 'Bill' ... then I realized that would have made for a very poor excuse for a joke so I didn't ... until now.

They are pinnacles (architectual term). You could describe them as "twin" pinnacles. The term includes above the roofing material turret caps or tower crowns.

That may apply to the two upward pointing structures, however, I believe John was asking about the top pieces.

John can clarify which he was asking about (maybe both?).

    John,

Looking at the photos again, it looks like one is taller than the other, possibly because one is broken off more than the other, in which case they may have had finials at their tops at one time.
