    Default Water heater tied to plug-in 220 outlet

    I am sure this is not right but where does it say a water heater has to be hard-wired and cannot use a 220 dryer type outlet ?

    NEC (bold is mine)
    - 400.7 Uses Permitted
    - - (A) Uses. Flexible cords and cables shall be used only for the following: (not in there)
    - 400.8 Uses Not Permitted
    - - Unless specifically permitted in 400.7, flexible cords and cables shall not be used for the following: (as stated above - not in 400.7, and not in 400.8 either)
