    Default Vent stack placement

This photo is of a vent stack to the laundry room in a home built in 1920, however, laundry area was built in the last two years. Despite the stack being too close to a working window (which owner says is "never used", shouldn't this stack go through the soffett and out the roof like standard practices require?

    Thanks in advance, Greg

Not only through the roof, but it needs to be protected from both sunlight and from freezing.

In our area we call that "hack" plumbing.
