    Default Support under crawl space.

Came across this today. these rock were supporting the chimmey in the living room. Looks like they have been there for the life of the house (1925). They were not strudy and could easily be moved. Looking for thoughts on this one. Thanks.

    Bill,

There were supporting: a) the chimney, b) the fireplace, c) the hearth extension?

I'm thinking the hearth extension as I would have expected the fireplace or chimney to have already fallen in if supporting them.

Possibly laid up temporarily to support the form for the hearth extension, then never got removed.

Even then I'm not sure it would be a good idea to remove them, but for the fireplace or chimney ...

I would call for a "masonry fireplace contractor needs to make appropriate repairs".
