    Default Sewage pump

A basement laundry area uses a sewage ejector pump to remove only laundry waste water up to the level of the house drain. The unit's vent terminates about 4 feet above the pump housing. Is a proper plumbing vent not required, could a "cheater" or automatic vent be used?

(Ignore the NMD - separate issue)

Not sure about Ontario, but down here in New York it should be vented separately. But if it is just laundry waste, would it be a major problem if it was connected into an existing vent?Where is the check valve?

It should tie into an existing vent. A cheater vent on a pump box or ejector pit is not correct. It is best to check with your local plumbing inspector. Since codes always vary from place to place.

In some areas an air check vent is acceptable.

In Ontario it has to be vented.

    What places are these?

An AAV only allows for air to enter the system, It does not allow positive pressure to be let out. And since there is a check valve on the outlet of the pump there is no proper venting to allow for positive pressure.

FWIW that set up with the vent is NCC. (non-code complying)
