    Cool Re: Fireplace support

The fireplace listed instructions will generally dictate the unit be placed on a "solid continuous surface". Most gas DVs require carpet be pulled back not for fire safety but simply so it rides steady on the floor.

You've got some serious issues here with this unit. Any more pics?

Aside from the header clearance, there appears to be a homemade unlisted wall firestop. The top of the unit is dented , usually from someone standing on the unit. The vent pipe appears to dip down near the wall. There may be a Fiberfrax ceramic fiber gasket missing from the appliance vent collar. Is a 1/2" clearance required at the sides btw the jack studs and unit? How is the unit to be finished? Raised platform? What about the vent termination? Wall firestop? Gas line?

    Many questions...

Keep the fire in the fireplace.
