Default Gas Line to Water Heater

The grey flexible gas line was routed in front of the water heater burner compartment access door; about 3 inches from the door.

Is this wrong? It seems stupid but I can't think of any code, standard that says not to do it this way.

    Brian,

    Got a picture?

If you are talking about Pex Type Gas Line ( Plastic ) minimum clearance as it is considered a combustible material would be 6 inches and properly supported every 18 inches.

Added: If it looks like the attachment it's Plastic Coated ( metal insert ) but is Made For Mobile Homes.
