    Default Ductless furnace system

This was a 1995 1500 sq ft one storey home with a 3 foot crawlspace and an electric furnace in the utility room. There were heat registers in the floors of all the rooms, a central thermostat, and the house was comfortably warm. Seemed all pretty ordinary till I opened the hatch to the crawl and felt a blast of heat instead of clammy damp air! Whadya know, the furnace is dumping hot air into the crawl and there is no ductwork installed! I got a pic of the heat coils by sticking my camera into the housing below the furnace, neat!

Lucky for me the buyer is a fairly savvy guy and it wasn't hard to convince him that ducts would be more cost efficient.

Needless to say, there was no permit unless the local AHJ had his head where the sun don't shine.
