Default Heatilator ,make up air question

    First time seeing this...........

I have run into a strange Heatilator type fireplace (metal firebox) that has a make up air vent installed near the upper third of the firebox. I opened up the cover and the vent started pulling room air out. Has anyone ever seen a set- up like this? Does anyone know where I can go to see how this should be installed?

    Thanks.

Hi David, that's what it appears to be.
Problem is that the house was built in 1996, and the house received it's CO. I don't think that it's home made, but it's definitely an odd set up.

Has anyone even seen a fireplace set up like this before? (bump)
