Basemate ladder leveler

My brother-in-law tried to get me one of these for Christmas, but wasn't able to. He got me a Level Lok instead. I think I'm glad. This thing looks scary.
Anyone using a Basemate?

Wow..... pretty slick. At first look I thought no way!!! After watching the demo I'm less skeptical. I don't know if I'd use one. Mainly, just because I've been using ladders for so long I feel a "learning curve" could land me in the hospital.

You probably couldn't get one because the newest ones are all recalled.

Having said that, I've got to get one. Installing the leveler and safe- T ladder will give me a couple of extra feet of reach for my extension ladder at a cost of less than $300. Looks a bit too much like a bear trap.

After a couple hundred roofs, those dogs will lose their bite. When do you decide to retire the thing, after the first slip?

The extensions at the top are a good idea. Getting back on can be tricky if your ladder is short. 3 rungs above the gutter is the rule, and I will use a bungy cord on the gutter sometimes if it's a 2-storey.

In my opinion, that rule is just plain dangerous. In most cases on a steep roof, I prefer to step over the ladder and not around it. I guess that's where the Safe- T extension comes in.
