    Default Sump pit question.

    Hi everyone,

A sealed sump pit has two 1½ inch pipes coming out of it to the outside. One is for the pump which must go to the septic tank and the other one just goes through the outside wall and stops. What is the second one for? Is it just a vent?

    Thank you for your time!

Yes, one vent, and one discharge to septic tank.

It sounds like a grinder pump if it has a sealed lid and two 1 1/2" PVC pipes coming out of it. If so the vent must be treated just like a normal DWV and exit up through the roof.

    Hi Scott,

No it's the sump. The grinder pump is on the other side of the room near the bathroom and utility room sink. I think they may have sealed the sump to keep radon levels down.?? I didn't think it had to be vented but if it's sealed maybe it should be (sump).

    Thank you for your time!

If its a sump pump it could be a secondary back up pump discharge.
