    Default Termites

    Hello to All,

I'd like to know when you find termite damage, do you recommend a certain contractor or do you leave it up to the client to find some one on their own?
Also does termite treatment really work ?
    Thanks for your input.

Similar response to your gas question..

I note that I found bugs eating the house and that they need to contact a qualified pest control contractor to take care of them. I do not tell them who to call.

Termite treatments can work if done properly.

In the South we have 4 types of homes:
    1. Homes that have termites!
    2. Homes that have had termites!
    3. Homes that will have termites!
    4. Homes that still have termites after being treated!

After chlordane was removed from the market, the only sure way to get rid of termites is to move!

The advice I give people is to know the difference between treatment companies and repair people. Treatment companies' way of fixing a problem is to come back twice a year for eternity whereas repair guys actually replace the damaged wood which usually gets rid of the problem (and of course fixing what caused the wood to become infested in the first place).

At least this is the routine in my area which I realize is A LOT different than other parts of the country.

Mat has a good point. On the other had the post starts off with (TERMITES)

He does not state the type of termite.

A dry-wood termite... there is no way to stop a Dry-wood termite.
as he live in dry wood and need no contact with the ground...

A damp-wood termite needs damp wood to live. a plumbing leak can provide and good place for these guys to hang...

A sub-termite need contact with the ground. about every 3 days he needs to return to the earth for moisture and soil and contact with the colony.
