    Default Gas sniffer

Anyone use a gas sniffer electronic device. Unfortanetly for me, I am not blessed with a good sense of smell, and often I have not detected the scent of natural gas, when others have. I see the gas sniffers on the market, but they are several hundred dollars. Anyone use one of these devices, etc and welcome any comments.

    Thanks

GS: You can get a TIFF 8800A for under $150 if you look around.

    Hi A.D. Thanks.

Do you find you use the Tiff quite often? and find it reliable ? Thanks for the tip, I did locate one for $176.

GS: I use it only to verify what I already smell. Keep looking, I know they can be found for <$150.

Purchased a Tiff when I first started in 1991. Rarely used it and was religated to the shelf. Through it out last year.

If I remember correctly pipe dope will also give false reading.

MG: Except that the proportion of natural gas in air required to produce the collapse of a canary is about 65%.

RW: Depends on what the dope is smoking in that pipe.
