    Default Help I am Stumped

I did an inspection today that had finished wood planks that looked liked it was attacked by WDI. Does any one recognize this planking? or is it a nest of bugs??

    Thanks

All the pics are pretty blurry but it looks like it happened when the tree was still a tree. Again impossible to tell from the pics but I have seen hollowed sections like that in lumber.

I'm thinking Old House Borers, but the photos are not good enough to really tell, so that is just a SWAG.

Yes, it looks to me that wood destroying insects were present at some point in the past. The lack of visible frass suggests that the damage may have occured before the wood was installed. The size & smoothness, tough as it is to see in the blurry images, do look similar to that of Old House Borers. As someone else noted, you should recommend further evaluation by a licensed pest inspector or pesticide applicator.

From the lighter look of the wood, those look "freshly exposed" as compared to the age of the other surface woods.
