Default More white powder in the gas vent

When I saw this chimney, I thought I'd dozed off and woken up in Philly.

I think I win the white powder contest with this one! The buyers will get a new liner, new pipes and a chimney cap, but I don't expect that will fix the corrosion problem.
This install was about 15 yrs old, in a 1940's uninsulated crawlspace. I recommended insulating the perimeter walls and closing off all but one or two of the crawlspace vents. There were 5 or 6 vents in the perimeter walls. The floor has been covered with poly, and they've run poly up the foundation walls to the sills. Any ideas? Should the furnace be moved so the vent connector is shorter?

The chimney liner was never installed correctly to begin with. Even if it was, if its diameter was over sized they still have problems. I see they bumped up the size of the chimney connector as it left the furnace - it was wrong from the get go.

There was a chimney cap installed at one time, found it in the garden shed.

Does oversizing the pipe cause a cooler stack temperature? That would do it, alright.

Easy there JK. Only John A. and I get to talk smack about Philadelphia chimneys like that .

That's a winner alright. It would fit right in around here.
