    Default Furnace vent initial rise

I know that water heaters must have an 18" vertical rise befor the first transition.

Is there a rule for gas furnaces?

I'm not aware of a 18" requirement for any gas appliance.

This questions comes up here often, this is likely the most useful (if somewhat ... err.. contentious) iteration, see the second version of Jerry Peck's .pdf, near the middle of the thread.

Most gas water heaters I have seen with draft hoods have a 6" requirement before any change in direction.

    Thank you,

    Q. Now, however, when you take the code's connector rise chart minimum of 1 foot and try to match that with that manufacturer's drawing (do you know how old that is?) what do you end up with?

    A. The most restrictive shall apply. (From the codes.)

First, go back and review the drawing you posted.
