Does anyone know what year AFCIs started to be made mandatory in bedrooms? Sorry about the typo.

2002 and then the end of 08 or beginning of 09 for the rest of the home.....maybe. All of that is maybe due to who actually adopted what when.

How do I confirm this? Via NEC? I only have 08'
I just need something that says the year it was mandatory.

    National Electrical Code® (NEC®) Requirements

    NEC 1999
The National Electrical Code® (NEC®) first mandated the use of AFCIs in 1999 for the protection of branch circuits supplying bedroom receptacle outlets. The effective date was January 1, 2002.

    210-12. Arc-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection

    • (A) Definition. An arc-fault circuit interrupter is a device intended to provide protection from the effects of arc faults by recognizing the characteristics unique to arcing and by functioning to de-energize the circuit when an arc fault is detected.

Keep in mind it usually depends when the permit was applied for so there can be some variation.

It is a major issue when on what code was adopted at the time tthe permit was issued, some juristictions are quick to adopt a new code & others are way behind in adoption of a code. But if CA would never adopt the 2008 NEC it would not hurt my feelings (From what I understand it takes effect in JAN) just because that AFCI's are snake oil that no one in the field can prove they work, unlike GFCI's which are a proven & inexpensive device.
