Who needs a screen when you have your own racoon family to ensure that the other pests stay out of the chimney!

That would so scare the crap out of me if I stuck my head up there. Because of a run in with a squirrel years ago, I always stick the camera in first and flash a couple shots. I hope it makes them scurry away.

Who needs a chimney sweep when you've got a 'coon?

Seriously, you would need to hire a licensed professional animal control agency to remove live racoons then have the chimney swept. Understand their feces contains roundworms, which can be inhaled once the dung dries so always wear a respirator and bunny suit then be sure to wash your clothes separately in hot water and shower about three times. Racoon roundworm is serious business.
A professional cap will keep out critters but homemade caps and screens will not.

Keep the fire in the fireplace.
