    Default Deck and house beams

A place that I am looking at has a large deck, but after climbing under the house it was discovered that the beams that the house sets on are the same beams that are holding up the deck. The trim and siding on the outside of the house are just notched around the beam. I know this is not the traditional way of building a deck and not the way that I would do it but wondering if I bought the place if its something that has to be fixed, or even can be fixed without starting the deck all over again. Thanks

Cantilevered deck? Just thought I would take a guess at it while we wait for pictures.

I bet you half a cent that you are right.

If cantilevered, probably decayed wood at the deck supports.
