    Default Mustard Stains on Shirt

Today while having lunch in my vehicle in between appointments, I had some mustard drip onto my white Polo shirt.

This shirt is 100% cotton and I'm not sure about how to remove the stain.

Should I take it to a dry cleaners or take the risk of doing it myself? If I put bleach on it, should I do so in a ventilated room?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Dijon or yellow mustard?
What does the shirt label recommend?

Step #1: Go buy another shirt.

Step #2: Go do your inspection.

Step #3: Ask your wife how to remove the stain, if she does not know (women usually - but not always - know more about these things than men do) then take it to a dry cleaners.

Step #4: Relegate that shirt to crawlspace/attic duty, rub a little dirt on it and no one will see the stain (they will just think you've been working too hard).

Club soda will remove most any stain or you could pick up one of those stain pens found at most convienience stores or pharmacies like rite aid or whatever the f their name is.
Then there is the yellow dye if all else fails.

yellow mustard: place stained area on clean absorbant white towel, mix a solution of half liquid dish soap and half rubbing alcohol, saturate stained area with rubbing alcohol/dish detergent solution (not soap, not automatic dishwasher, no oxy's, bleaches or anti-bacterial agents, if you have fels naptha laundry bar works well with alcohol too).Stain will when first wetted and soaking appear to get darker. Let sit at least 15 minutes. Do not let dry out, rinse with hot water. The alcohol helps to lift the tumeric dye, the dish detergent (surfactant) helps to wet the fibers and lift/carry the media in the water. The alcohol with the water makes the water behave even more "wetter".If the wife has some cheap alcohol based hair spray use after dabbing solution and soaking just before and during rinse phase (also works for removing ball point pen ink).If remaining stain, soak stained area in straight white distilled vinegar, overnight if necessary.Oxy bleach will just set tumeric dye stain, as will ammonia. Bleach will set stain and eat future hole in polo shirt.

Who cares, a stained work shirt becomes a "painting" shirt for use around the house.

    Disgusted and Sad!

I took the white Polo shirt to what I thought was a reputable dry cleaners. He said he could remove the stain but I did not get it in writing and now my "dream" shirt is ruined. It now has a large gray stain in place of the mustard stain.

I could have easily dyed the shirt yellow, but now it is going to be difficult to try and make it all gray. Who wants to wear a gray shirt? I'm just devastated.

Guess I could sell the shirt in a garage sale but with this economy I would never recover my investment.

My wife is no help. She said all my shirts are just bibs anyway and I should ask for a burger with meat and cheese only.

Should I contact an attorney or just move on and purchase another one and take my losses. I love her, but she is getting on my nerves.

Had an uncle who dripped coffee onto his white tee-shirts regularly. His wife added some amount of brewed coffee to the wash cycle and it colored the whole shirt the same as the drip.

or perhaps petition your local elected representative to sponsor a stimulus program targeted at the shirt-deficient and condiment-challenged, with special grants for educational centers that provided community based mentoring on condiment application and retention during vehicle manipulation and condiment/vestment intersection avoidance.

Did you mean purchase another "wife" or "shirt"?

Maybe you could find others across the country with mustard stains and do a class action suit...probably get a penny each after the lawyers were done with it.

    Rick,

I find that dribbling a little beer on top of the mustard stain does the trick...poof! No more stain! If you practice...you can get into a rhythm. Might as well start practicing now...the older you get...the more you'll dribble anyway
