Flue transition at addtion

On general principles I always tell clients at properties where a masonry chimney has been extended (for example, as at this property, when a second floor addition has been added) that the flue junction at the transition is suspect until proven otherwise by a Level II.

Various things have turned up as a result, but this one was a doozy, the Level II identified this from the bottom as a transition between square tiles and precast concrete chimney sections, with an unsealed gap at the transition (I could not see up the chimney from the firebox because of an offset.)

Bob H. probably sees this sort of stuff all the time, but it was a new one to me.
