Default Help with basement drainage tiles

This was new to me. They had an opening in corner where the drainage tiles came together and at one time had a some type of accumulation device, which has disintegrated. Anyone give me a better understanding of what is going on here?

It appears to be an abandoned sump pit.

There would normally be a pump in there and a lid on top.

I agree with sump pump pit, theres a large corrugated pipe buried in there and the mason took a 5 gallon spackle bucket to cover it and stop the concrete from pouring in

    My 2 cents:
you should come back or recommend follow up while during rainy weather.

If there is still visible water flowing it's possibly a disaster waiting to happen.

Sometimes the lack of maintenance makes things look abandoned or the other system installed could not be working as planned.

Was this an older home that appeared to have newer concrete poured in the basement??
