Default Take a look at the two middle burners in photos

Guys, Take a look at the two middle burners in the photos. The outer photos are burning blue but the two middle are orange/red. Does this indicate a rusted heat exchanger or rusted burners ? This unit is 20+ years old running on natural gas.

    Thanks

    Gene

It could be burner or heat exchanger problems or both.

The key is that the burners are not burning properly and it needs to be serviced. With a 20 year old system it has had a good life! I would not attempt diagnosing the problem, but I would tell my client that it has a problem and needs service to determine if it can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

    Gene,
How did the burners look. Were they clogged or covered with rust?
Did you look into the burner chambers? with a mirror?

Scott said it all. If you were able to see a crack, then it's just frosting on the cake.

Sometimes it's better to burn out than to just fade away.

Looks like this baby has started the burn . . . .

Would be a great place to use a combustion analyzer to get the correct answers.

It looks like burners with a bunch of debris on them to me. Might not be cracked but deserves a service call at the least. Sometimes you can tap on the burners with a screw driver a few times and if it clears up, it is probably debris on the burners. However, if there is that much debris, it need to be serviced and thoroughly checked.

If it weren't for lawyers, we would never need them.

I agree! Looks like debris on the burner, but certainly needs a service call.
