    Default Toilet "burps"

House built in 1935. Two bathrooms, one on the main floor and one in the basement. This only happened in the toilet in the basement. The basement bathroom is not original to the house and likely a non-professional installation.

I flushed it 10 or 12 times and every time I flushed the toilet a bubble would come up first before it would go through the normal flushing process. What causes this? There were no signs of leaks around the base of the toilet, but could it be the toilet was not set properly and the wax ring is a little off and obstructing the drain a bit?

Most likely a venting issue of some sort. A clogged or slow drain, or loose wax ring, typically won't cause that air burp you described.
