    Default Timer switch on furnace...

Would anyone lend some ideas on what function this timer switch plays on this heat pump & furnace combination? There is a modern thermostat that controls the unit on the inside of the home.

I can think of a few possible reasons, to prevent the unit from operating during set times of the day or to force the circulation fan on during set times of the day. Looks like it may operate on batteries.
