Default Heat exchanger, gas hot water boiler

This is a 255,000 btu gas hot water boiler manufactured in 02. Looks like this was sealed after market or the guy at the factory has a bad day, too much whiskey. Anyway, do you mention this.

Yep, I would call for a qualified heating tech to check that over really well. There's rust stains below all that goop.

A boiler that size could come as a package boiler or sectional boiler. I'm not too familiar with Dunkirks. Seen a few here and there but they aren't that popular here. Based on the goop I'd say it came as a sectional boiler and the guy putting it together wasn't too experienced. My old man would have beat my ass if I put a unit together like that.
I would call it out on the basis of "Visible workmanship is very sloppy and atypical for a good boiler install; This raises concerns as to the long term integrity of the unit". OR if it did come as a package boiler. "boiler appears to have been 'resealed' for some unknown reason" recommend further blah blah
If its been in place for ~10 years and you aren't seeing water or stains on the floor, stand or other alarms you may have a weak argument.

    Quick opinion,

    Boiler was cleaned and resealed.
Very similar to an oil fires boiler in design.
Would question when cleaning was done.
I am not able to name the sealant , but if heat rated, then OK.
If there was no sign of degradation, then OK.
Why clean gas boiler? Increase efficiency.
If you don't like the caulk job, well we are all not a Rembrandt.
Better a little messy than not sealed tight.
