Default Roof Jack w/ Neoprene Boot At B Vent

The roof jack at the B vent for the water heater has a neoprene boot. There should be a 1" clearance between a B vent and combustible materials so the use of a neoprene boot at a B vent would be improper, right?

That is a great picture. The boot is completely wrong for that type of application. That type of boot jack or vent stack boot is made for plumbing vents and not "B" vents. It needs to have a metal transition cone with a storm collar to keep the water out.

As Scott properly identified, that is a plumbing vent boot and is not rated for a ombustion flue.

The flashing should be of the metal type rated for a B-vent combustion flue.

That's the way I wrote it up. Thanks for confirming my suspicions, guys.

Those boot are worthless. They fail over time or if installed wong (done alot) and basically end up holding water - bad concept IMHO.
