Hello All,
Just a quick question about the pilot light in my gas stove. It is constantly going out and needs to be re-ignited.

Thinking on furnaces and how they have a thermocouple actuated safety valve which stops the flow of gas should the flame go out.

Are gas stoves pilot lights considered so small that they so not require this safety back-up , which is why I can simply light it directly without having to manually open the gas valve? Wouldn't even that small amount of gas dissipating into my small apartment possibly be bad for health? Or should it have some similar device which is not functioning?

The pilot light goes out often and I'm just wondering if someone can give me some insight into how this system works. Thanks.
