    Was it a realy old modular home, those rafter cuts look they might have hinged and then a knee wall was added...?

    Some of those rafters had maybe 20% bearing surface support.

    It is a manufactured truss roof with a hip at the end. The truss on the left is truncated to fit the hip. The 2X4's coming down from the peak and hip ridges would actually be laid flat in most cases where the builders followed the plan. The actual weight carried by those 2X4's is not that great, but they need to rest firmly on the top chord of the truss.
