    Default 2003 IRC 703.2

Can anyone give me the direct quote from the 2003 version of IRC R703.2?

I have it in the 2006 version which is a bit different. The area in question is still under the 2003 version so I want to be as specific as possible.

    Thanks

Was there a change between the 2003 Table R703.4 and the 2006 Table R703.4?

Can someone please post table Table R703.4 from the 2003 version.

One more question on the 2003 IRC.

Is there a general clause anywhere in the document that makes it a requirement to follow manufacturers installation instructions?

    Regarding what type of equipment?

    For starters:

M1307.1 General. Installation of appliances shall conform to the conditions of their listing and label and themanufacturer’s installation instructions. The manufacturer’s operating and installation instructions shall remain attached to the appliance.

M2001.1 Installation. In addition to the requirements of this code, the installation of boilers shall conform to the manufacturer’s instructions. The manufacturer’s rating data, the nameplate and operating instructions of a permanent type shall be attached to the boiler. Boilers shall have all controls set, adjusted and tested by the installer.Acomplete control diagram together with complete boiler operating instructions shall be furnished by the installer. Solid and liquid-fuel-burning boilers shall be provided with combustion air as required by Chapter 17.

E3303.3 Listing and labeling. Electrical materials, components, devices, fixtures and equipment shall be listed for the application, shall bear the label of an approved agency and shall be installed, and used, or both, in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions.

I was wondering about that table too. Is there no way to post it in the thread?

...So, apparently there's no general clause about installing according the manufacturers' directions.

My inquires in this thread are about WRB (house wrap) under vinyl siding. The jurisdiction of the subject property is still under the 2003 IRC. Table 703.4 of that version does not require WRB under vinyl siding. However, I must imagine that all vinyl siding manufacturers instructions say to put WRB over the OSB prior to installing the siding.

This is a brand new home. No WRB under the vinyl siding = WTF!

2003 IRC Table R703.4; 9th row down on left - Vinyl siding note n; over to 4th column to right, Sheathing Paper Required, No.

    Note n:
    - n. Vinyl siding shall comply with ASTM D 3679.

    Designation: D 3679 – 04a
An American National Standard Standard Specification for Rigid Poly(Vinyl Chloride) (PVC) Siding 1

    note 1:
    - 1 This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D20 on Plastics and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee D20.24 on Plastic Building Products.
    - - Current edition approved Sept. 1, 2004. Published October 2004. Originally approved in 1979. Last previous edition approved in 2004 as D 3679 – 04

    From ASTM D 3679:
    - 1.4 Siding produced to this specification shall be installed in accordance with Practice D 4756. Reference shall also be made to the manufacturer’s installation instructions for the specific product to be installed.

If the manufacturer says it needs a WRB installed behind it ... then it needs a WRB installed behind it.
