    Default smoke detector/sprinkler question

I inspected a single bedroom condominium today in a multi unit building....four stories tall built in 2004. First time for me, as I just moved to a bigger city where before I never inspected anything but single family detached houses. There was a sprinkler system installed with a sprinkler head in every room. There was only one smoke detector in the main living area.

My question....does the sprinkler system alter the requirements for smoke detectors...I wouldn't think so, tried google but nothing comes up readily.

    Thanks.

    No.

Or at least not that I am aware of.

All of the low-rises, mid-rises, and high-rises I have done always have both sprinklers and smoke/fire alarm systems. I should say 'all the newer ones', the older ones had neither smoke alarms or sprinklers.

2004 is not an 'older one', it is a 'newer one'.

    Jerry is correct
Having a sprinkler system does not change the requirements for smoke Detection.

Smoke detectors are an early warning that help you to get out in time
Sprinklers are not an early warning, but do help you to be able to get out.
