    Peter
I think that is a wasp nest not bees.

Anyhow, just get out, oh, and report it.

Thanks, Is the white a new one? The other big brown hive seemed dry & empty. Correct?

New or old? I don't know.
Hazard (Damage) to the structure? None I know of.
    Hazard to the occupants? Likely

My guess is that you have never seen angry hornets
(I don't know if they are hornets or not, don't want to find out)

For a hive that big, you will need much more than a couple cans of wasp spray. I had one about the size of a soccer ball in a shrub in my yard. A professional pest guy came out and sprayed for almost 45 minutes. A couple days later I cut it out of the shrub and set in on a patio table. Hundreds os wasps/hornets crawled out and died in the next few days.

no, I am lucky. When I was there, nothing bothered me. Otherwise, I might get swollen. Once a time just opened the hatch, I got sting on my finger. That was terrible but I think cannot be avoided.

If it is alive a single can of wasp spray will take care of it. It will take a week or so but the wasps will die out and/or get mad and move away.

A cup of gasoline will kill them dead. You don't light it, just splash it on the nest and run.

No, those are not bees nests, they are wasp nests. They build a new nest every year.

I would never tell someone to splash gasoline on anything, let alone inside an attic.

I suggest clients to ask strata or pros to cope.
