Default Deck close to property line in San Francisco

    Hi,
We are buying a house in San Francisco which occupies the whole width of the lot. We plan on building a deck on the back (less than 10 feet from ground) that would be close to the property line on both side, with stairs to the backyard on the side where our lot is touching the back of neighboring lots.
The question is "Does it need a firewall?".
I could not find the information online and have not yet had time to go and ask in person.
BTW, none of the neighbors decks have a firewall...
    Thanks in advance

You really need to contact the local code official and get their official opine.
