Re: Plummers Putty
What? If it's not leaking, isn't it just fine. Careful how you report this; you might make a realtor mad.

Re: Plummers Putty
Dang it! The problem is they should have used duct tape.
But really, the first tool to come out of my box to fix this would be a big hammer. I would track down the nitwit who did this and hit him with it.
Seriously, if you think for a minute or two, it's not that hard to put this stuff together right. Especially that cheap plastic crap. The flex pieces made it even more complicated in my opinion.

Wow ! If only I could have bought some plumber's putty stock before that project happened.

Re: Plummers Putty
Seen this many times. Even had one customer use epoxy to stop a leak around a sink basket strainer. Had a terrible time cutting the thing out without damaging the sink. Sheesh! Even seen cases where one has used a flexible radiator hose for a trap!

Re: Plummers Putty
On one of my recent repair projects, the galvanized water distribution pipes in the ceiling had leaked in dozens of locations because they were used up and rusted out. The self help homeowner had patched almost all of the leaks using two part epoxy. He was really frustrated when I quoted for replacing almost the entire system instead of just a localized replacement of a leaking joint.

Re: Plummers Putty
that particular brand of disposal is bad about developing cracks in the disposal body. I see leaks from them often.
