    Default Shared chimney flue

Can a gas-fired water heater and furnace share the same chimney flue as the wood-burning fireplace? I don't think so. What is the applicable IRC code? Thanks.

Every wood burning Fireplace should have a dedicated flue. You are correct! I don't know the IRC just my local. Cheers!

The appropriate code reference from the 2006 IRC is M1801.12. " A solid-fuel burning appliance or fireplace shall not connect to a chimney passageway venting another appliance".
