Default Bathroom Entry Door - Min Opening

Lets say my current bathroom door when closed is at 0 degrees. At present it can open to a max of approx 120 degrees before it it hits the shower bath pan. Is this an acceptable door opening criteria? What is the minimum a bathroom door can opened before it violates some code? 90 degree's? Thank You

I have several doors in my house that only open 90 deg.

    Is this new construction?
Did you not notice this before you closed on the home?

The home is fairly new construction. Built in 2005. It was foreclosure.

    Hi Vin and Welcome,

Just curious as to why this would be an issue ?

If hitting the shower pan after 120 degree swing bothers you you could install a hing door stop Hinge Pin Door Stops - The Hardware Hut

Really not a big deal or much that could be done about it. I would not worry about the codes, etc... It is what it is and unless you plan on tearing it all out and starting from scratch you will have to live with it.

    Vin.
If the bath was original construction and it received an occupancy permit then it fine to your local code.

A door moving past 90 deg does not increase access in general.

If the door met the interior wall instead of a shower bath pan would it make a difference? No.

No nother at all. I want to change the shower to a tub and the door will probably only swing open to 90' at that point.

    And 90 degrees is fine.

But ... if the shower is narrower than the tub, the shower is likely not as large as it was supposed to be.

Tubs (like people) can come in a variety of sizes.
I have seen several 5x7 garden tubs.

True, I was going by a standard 30" wide tub (or are they 32", either way, you know the ones I mean).

You are correct, I did not consider a large garden tub.
