    Default Furnace vent requirements

Im working on a home I purchased a couple of months ago. The home was built around 1910. It has a furnace in the basement/ crawlspace that vented through the wall to the outside, then up the side of the wall for 18 ft before it make a bend around the eave then ending about 4 ft above the eave. All the vent pipe is single wall, there are 4 90 degree elbows & the whole system is strapped to the wall using plumbers tape. It all needs to be replaced. I called and emailed the local building inspector to get advise on this but never got a response. What I want to know is; what are the requirement to meet code for venting the furnace.

    It depends on the furnace.
